The snowmelt line is where floors fail
Park a snow-covered car in a Utah garage and within an hour there is a puddle of salty meltwater under and behind it. That water sits, evaporates, and leaves concentrated chloride behind. Over a winter, the strip of slab where cars park develops visible pitting and scaling that the rest of the floor does not.
A resin coating stops chloride ingress completely. Specify extra topcoat build in that zone and near the door threshold, where the exposure is worst.
High-altitude freeze-thaw
Utah's dry air and strong winter sun mean a slab can swing from well below freezing overnight to above freezing in the afternoon almost daily. That cycling stresses the bond line, so flexibility in the system matters more here than in a milder climate.
Coating in a Utah winter
Polyaspartic applies at slab temperatures far below what epoxy tolerates, so winter installs are genuinely feasible. Two conditions matter: the slab must be conditioned and above the dew point, and it must be washed with a salt neutralizer and rinsed before grinding. Chlorides absorbed into the pores will undermine a bond from underneath.
Ideally, though, coat in September or October, before the first salted commute of the season.
