Why does epoxy struggle in Lexington weather?
Lexington swings a lot. NOAA normals at Blue Grass Airport show about 90 nights a year at or below freezing, but July highs near 87 F. A floor has to handle salt in winter and hot tires in summer.
It is also wet, with about 49.8 inches of precipitation a year. Damp slabs can make a coating lose its grip. A moisture test should come first, and product sheets list humidity limits for install.
Freeze-thaw and salt scale bare concrete. NRMCA notes this happens most when slabs freeze while wet or salty (NRMCA CIP 2). In summer, many epoxies yellow in UV light, per their data sheets (Euclid Duraltex UV, Dulux Luxafloor HSG). A polyaspartic topcoat holds color better.
How does a flake floor install work in Lexington?
In Lexington, the slab must be dry enough after rain before coating starts.
- Grind and prep: the slab is diamond ground so the coating can bite in. Cracks and chips get filled.
- Moisture check: the slab is tested before any coating goes down.
- Base coat: a colored polyaspartic or polyurea base coat is rolled on.
- Flake broadcast: vinyl flakes are thrown into the wet base for color and grip.
- Clear topcoat: a clear polyaspartic coat seals the flakes and adds UV protection.
- Return to service: you walk and park on it when the product sheet says it is ready.
Can you coat a garage floor in Lexington?
Yes. A flake system with a polyaspartic topcoat is the most common job. It keeps salt, mud, and water on top and adds grip.

Is a basement flake floor a good idea in Lexington?
Yes, after a moisture test. Basements in a rainy area can have damp slabs. A vapor barrier primer may go down first.

Will a patio coating hold up in Kentucky weather?
It can with good prep and an outdoor-rated system. A UV-stable topcoat keeps color, and texture adds grip in rain.

Can a pool deck in Lexington be coated?
Yes. Texture gives grip, and lighter colors stay cooler. Work is planned for warm, dry days.

Can a detailing shop or business floor be coated fast?
Many can. Seamless, glossy flake floors are easy to clean, and fast-cure polyaspartic systems help keep downtime short.

How much does a floor coating cost in Lexington?
These are national planning ranges, not a Lexington quote. Epoxy garage floors are often cited at about $3 to $12 per square foot installed, per Bob Vila, which draws on Angi and HomeAdvisor data. Our own national range for a full polyaspartic flake system is $7 to $12 per square foot.
